François Gariépy was born circa 1629 in Montfort, Gers, France. Son of Jean and Jeanne D'Aragonce-D'Aragon, he married Marie Oudin, daughter Antoine and Madeleine de La Russière, on August 13, 1657 in Quebec. From this union were born 13 children. He came here in 1656 as a master carpenter. In 1657, he is one of the signatories requesting the foundation of the Confrérie de Ste-Anne, of which he will be the master in 1677. First, he settled in Côte de Beaupré and then in l'Ange-Gardien. In 1681, he owned 1 rifle, 6 heads of cattle and 10 acres of land. He died and was buried on April 25, 1706 in Château-Richer.
