Pioneers of the Coste family

Jean Coste (Cotte/Cote) is from Mortagne-au-Perche, Orne, Lower Normandy, France. Of unknown parentage, he married Anne Martin, daughter of Galeran Martin, on November 17th, 1635 in Quebec City. From their union were born eight children. He arrived in 1635, as one of the first inhabitants of the country. He settled down in Beauport, where he received several lands and yields: 3 acres in Beauport, 1 acre front on Grande-Allée which he sold 300 pounds, and 150 feet by 60 feet at the Upper Town of Quebec, estimated at 450 pounds, which he sold 300 pounds to his son (husband of Simone). He died at Beauport on March 27th, 1661.
