Pioneers of the Charet family

Étienne Charet is baptized in April 1635 in Sainte-Radegonde, Poitou-Charentes in France. Son of Pierre Charet and Renée Le Merle, he marries Catherine Bissot, daughter of François Bissot and Marie Couillard, in 1670 in Québec. 12 children were born from this union. He arrives in the country in 1665 as a tanner and settles in Sainte-Famille, Île d’Orléans, with his brother Jean. In 1668, he goes into partnership with François Bissot and moves to the Pointe-de-Lévis, where he works to skillfully develop a tannery. As such, he is considered as the first industrial leader of the country. He dies in May 1699 in Lauzon.
