Jean-Baptiste Bousquet was born circa 1636 in Tonneins, Lot-et-Garonne, France. Son of Jean and Elisabeth Hileret, he married Catherine Fournier, on May 11, 1672 in Montreal. Catherine is the widow of Mathurin Mercadier, and the daughter of Claude and Marie Pennetier. From this union were born 11 children. He was an arquebusier (gunsmith) when he settled in Trois-Rivières in 1664. In 1670, he settled in Montreal. Circa 1676, he founded the Confrérie de St-Éloi with other gunsmiths. In 1681, he lived in Ile Ste-Thérèse on a 13 acres land. He died before November 24, 1698 and his burial location remains unknown.
