Cmsgt. William "Bill" C. Barbour, 80, of Marionville, passed away Sunday, August 27, 2006, in St. John's Hospital with his wife Shirley by his side. Bill was born February 20, 1926, in Clayton, N.C. He touched many lives and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him, as husband, father and friend. Bill served his country, first in the Army 1945 then the Air Force during World War II and the Korean War. Bill ran the Arctic Survival School at Eielson AFB, Alaska. He was a test parachutist for the Air Force and went to Chile to teach survival to the troops. He retired from the military after a brilliant career of 26 plus years of service. Upon retirement, he served as Mayor of Marionville during the 1970's. He was a past member of the Masonic Lodge, York Rite, 32nd Degree Mason, and Abou Ben Adhem Shrine Temple, Springfield. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Shirley; three sons, Randall of Pensacola, Fla., Lee and wife, Pam, of Mt. Vernon, and Edward and wife, Lisa, of Mascoutah, Ill.; two daughters, Cheryl Moore and husband, Kevin, of Wilson, N.C., and Rea Leggitt of Rochester, N.Y. Bill was blessed with four grandsons, four granddaughters and seven great-grandsons. Services are at 10 a.m. today, Aug. 30, 2006, at Williams Funeral Home in Marionville, with the Rev. Lee Miller officiating. Burial will be in Marionville IOOF Cemetery with full military honors.
