Obituary of Walter-Alford Caldwell


Walter Alford Caldwell, 58, of 304 Tranquil Drive, husband of Sharleen Woods Caldwell, died Saturday, Oct. 5, 2002, at National Health Care of Clinton. Born Sept. 1, 1944, to the late Alford Carter Caldwell and Mazel Turner Caldwell of Honea Path. He is survived by his wife of 40 years of the home, three sons, Walter Timothy Caldwell and wife, Bess Patterson Caldwell of Lanford, Michael Christopher Caldwell of Waterloo, and Matthew Mendon Caldwell and wife, Christy Coleman Caldwell of Laurens; and one grandson Walter Timothy Caldwell, II of Lanford. Also two sisters, Tilly Marlowe Parker of Honea Path and Cathy Caldwell Hamby of Bradley, and his mother-in-law, Mrs. Maude Woods of Laurens. A brother, Kenneth Carl Marlowe predeceased him. He was a 1962 graduate of Honea Path High School, where he was active in all sports, especially football. He was 1962 Class A Lineman of the Year. He attended The University of South Carolina, where he played football his freshman year. He received a Bachelor of Science in Business from Lander University. Mr. Caldwell was a member of Princeton Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon and church treasurer, and he also taught the Clayton Woods Sunday School Class. During his years of fast declining health, he also attended Chestnut Ridge Baptist Church and was a member of the Agape Sunday School Class. He was a member, as well as past Master, of Princeton Masonic Lodge No. 129. CeramTec of North America employed him for 35 years as a Production Manager. As past president of LAVA Federal Credit Union, Mr. Caldwell also served on the Board of Directors of Rabon Creek Rural Water District during its early development. A memorial service will be held at Princeton Baptist Church, Princeton, SC, on Monday, Oct. 7, 2002, at 2 p.m., with Masonic Rites. The Reverend Anthony Kelly and the Reverend Bobby Hardin will conduct the service. The family will receive friends following the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of Laurens County, P.O. Box 178, Clinton, SC 29325. - Cremation Society of South Carolina.
