Obituary of Verra-Delle Macleod

MACLEOD Verra Delle (nee Dunne) 1915 - 2008Born June 5th, 1915 in Kansas City, Missouri and moved to Winnipeg, Manitoba, at the age of two. The Dunnes eventually moved west and settled in Vancouver where Verra grew up and attended General Gordon Elementary and Kitsilano High School. While working and raising her son Bruce, she met the love of her life, Rod, in 1940 and they married on the 16th day of January, 1941. She always said that her life began that day. Rod, Verra and Bruce built an idyllic family life together and while Verra learnt to do magic with their allotted ration coupons there was always plenty to eat and some extra for anyone that stopped by. Verra was always supportive of whatever Rod or Bruce became involved in. Verra was President of the PTA, she became a Sunday School teacher and headed the CGIT at the church, she joined The Sons of Scotland with Rod and she became involved with The DeMolay mother's group for Bruce when he was active in that young men's organization. She and Rod became avid Rock Hounds and Verra went on to become very active with The Puppetry Guild and the Magic Gals. Verra was a founding member of Brock House and was a very productive member of the Crafts Club, making and selling a variety of crafts to raise money for Brock House. Her husband, Rod, sadly passed away in 1975. Having reached the wonderful age of 93. Verra was unfortunately predeceased by her mother, her father, her cousin Kay, her daughter-in-law Judith and most of her friends and relatives. She is survived by her Son Bruce, her grandchildren Rod (Jasmin), Vivian, Suzanne (Andrew), her great-grandchildren Justin and Daniel, her cousins Helen, Murray (Maude), Phyllis, Carol and Gwen and some of the children of her closest friends. The family wishes to express their gratitude to the staff of the Marion Hospice for their care, their friendship and their gentleness during Verra's stay with them. They also wish to express their appreciation to Brenda, Verra's friend and care giver. The family invites those who would like to acknowledge Verra's amazing 93 year journey to join the family at Marine Drive Golf Club, foot of W 57th Ave. and SW Marine Drive, Vancouver on Tuesday, December 16, 2008 @ 2:30 PM to toast her new journey.
