Obituary of Terrence-John Stokes

Picture of Terrence-John STOKES

April 8, 1943 – March 13, 2012Terry was a man who enjoyed life to the fullest. Born and raised in Vancouver, he had an early life full of fun and adventure; as a teen he could best be described as a "hot-rodding punk". His love of cars was an enthusiasm that he shared later with his sons. Terry spent most of his working life with the federal government, employed in what later became known as Service Canada. He thoroughly enjoyed his work and was able to help many people. He moved around the West Coast in his career, from the Lower Mainland, to Campbell River and Powell River, where he explored a couple of new career paths for a while, including running his own sawmill, before returning to Service Canada and moving to Courtenay. He spent many years living in the Comox Valley before joining his life partner Pat in Nanaimo where he retired from the Ministry of Social Development. Terry was predeceased by his parents, Leonard and Agnes. He is survived by his best friend Patricia Edwards and his children – Mike, Tracey, Darren, Jeremy and Josh, as well as his brother Bryan, his nieces, and his nephew. He will be sorely missed by his many good friends, including his former spouses Marlene and Lonni, and his loyal pets Stubby, Kitten and Gutter Cat. A celebration of Terry's life will be held on April 1 in Nanaimo at Legion Hall #256, 1630 E. Wellington from 12 – 3. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Nanaimo Palliative Care Unit or the Nanaimo Community Hospice would be appreciated.
