Obituary of Sister-Anne Sullivan

Sister Anne Sullivan, OSU, also known as Mother St. Mark, died on June 30, 2004 at the Ursuline Marian Residence in New Rochelle, NY. Born in New York City on July 26, 1918, the daughter of Edward and Anne Provost Sullivan, she attended St. Angela's School and the Ursuline Academy on the Grand Concourse in the Bronx. She graduated from the College of New Rochelle with a B.A. degree in 1940 and then entered the Ursuline Novitiate in Beacon, NY in July of that year. After her profession, Sister taught at Blessed Sacrament School in New Rochelle, St. Angela's School in the Bronx and at the Ursuline Academy on the Grand Concourse. She then held various administrative posts within the Order, in Boston, Dedham, MA, where she was co-founder of the Ursuline Academy, and later in Wilmington, DE. Having returned to St. Angela's Community in the Bronx, Sr. Anne received a Teaching License for the Homebound and worked for the Department of Social Services and the Human Resources Administration. Later, Sister moved to the Convent of St. Ursula on North Avenue, New Rochelle, and then retired to St. Teresa's Convent, also in New Rochelle. Sr. Anne was known for her free spirit, wit, and sense of humor. She was a lover of beauty, especially the great outdoors in all its glory. She is survived by her sister, Margaret Sullivan Hayes, widow of the Honorable John Hayes, Justice of the New York State Supreme Court and by several generations of nieces and nephews to whom she was most devoted. Her Funeral will be on Saturday, July 3 at 10:00 am in the chapel of the College of New Rochelle. Visitation will be at the Ursuline Convent at 39 Willow Drive, New Rochelle on Friday, July 2 from 2:30 pm to 8:30 pm.
