SHIRLEY ELIZABETH FLOOD - NORTH BENNINGTON - The Mass of Christian Burial for Shirley Elizabeth Flood of North Bennington, and formerly of Brandon; who died Aug. 7, 2012, in Watson House, will be held on Monday, Aug. 13, 2012, at 10 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Brandon, with burial to follow at Monkton Ridge Cemetery, where the family has long maintained a cottage on Cedar Lake. She was born Jan. 22, 1924, in Rutland, the daughter of the late Marcus and Verna (Stone) Carr. Shirley was a graduate of Mt. St. Joseph Academy and of the R.N. program of the former Bishop de Goesbriand Hospital in Burlington. On April 21, 1945, she married Francis R. Flood, who predeceased her on April 8, 1983. She was also predeceased by a brother, Marcus Carr Jr. on Jan. 1, 1997, a sister, Phyllis Barnard on Jan. 10, 2009, and a daughter, Sheila Marie on Aug. 23, 1999. Survivors are sons, Francis R. Flood Jr. of Powder Springs, Ga., and Lt. Col. David M. Flood of High Rolls, N.M., and families; as well as a grandson, Francis R. Flood III; two granddaughters, Jennifer Phipps, and Shannon Andrioli; and three precious great-grandchildren, Sydney Marie Flood, Alyssa Logan Flood, and Austin James Phipps. Also surviving are two sisters, Barbara O'Neil of North Bennington, and Sheila Hathaway of Essex Junction and Ladylake, Fla.; a sister-in-law, Yvonne Carr of Brandon, and many nephews and nieces. She was preceded in death by three nephews, Kevin Mark, Patrick Raymond O'Neil, and Marcus A. Pfenning. Friends may call on Sunday, Aug. 12, 2012, from 3 to 5 p.m. at the Miller & Ketcham Funeral Home in Brandon, where a Vigil Service will be held at 4:45 p.m. by the Rev. Ruel Tumangday, pastor of St. Mary's Church. Following the Mass the family will receive friends in the church Parish Hall, for a time of fellowship and remembrance.
