Ruth Elizabeth Dawson, 85, passed away at 6:30 a.m. Sunday, February 25, 2007, in St. John's Hospital, Springfield. Ruth was born on June 3, 1921 in Chesapeake, Missouri to Edward Henry and Lucy Blanche (Goodman) Knott. She graduated from the Marionville High School, was a retired custodian from the Missouri Rehabilitation Center, a member of the Heart of the Hills Extension Club, a 4-H sewing leader, a homemaker, and a member of the First Baptist Church, Mt. Vernon. On February 4, 1941, she married Ernest Rufus Dawson in Chesapeake. He preceded her in death on November 22, 2005. Her parents, one brother, Clifford Henry Knott and one grandchild, Robert Edward Dawson also preceded her in death. Survivors include: one daughter, Mary Lockhart, Mt. Vernon; three sons, Gene Dawson, Mt. Vernon, Robert Dawson, Strafford and Edward Dawson, Miller; one sister, Dorothy Pyle, Mt. Vernon; twelve grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. Funeral services, under the direction of Fossett-Mosher Funeral Home, Mt. Vernon will be held at 10 a.m., Thursday, March 1, in the First Baptist Church, Mt. Vernon with Rev. Dennis Zmek officiating. Burial will follow in the Summit Cemetery, northeast of Mt. Vernon. Family will receive friends from 6 to 8 Wednesday, February 28, in the funeral home chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church Endowment Fund, in care of the funeral home.
