Obituary of Ronald Matthews

MATTHEWS, Ronald OttoJanuary 9, 1927 – April 30, 2014Passed away after a long, painful battle with multiple myeloma at age 87. He never lost his sense of humor or his cheerful disposition. Predeceased by his father John, his mother Isabelle, his son Bradford and great grandson Charlie. Survived by his loving wife and soul mate Joan; daughter Joanne (Dave Schill); grandsons Ron, Alan (Wendy), Matt (Jenn), Jarett (Jen); 7 great-grandchildren Emma, Ben, Grace, Ally, Victoria, Ryan, Gus and almost Samantha. Ron always said he had the best life. Born in Winnipeg, he spent winters playing hockey and summers were baseball. At 18 his hockey career began, spanning the next 20 years. Following that it was 15 years with Imperial Oil. Upon retirement, he enjoyed time on the golf course with his 'buddies'. Our thanks to Dr. Cheyne and staff on 6th Floor and Hospice of Peace Arch Hospital for their care and compassion. A gathering will be held for friends and family at Hazelmere Golf Club on May 8th from 1:30 – 3:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Peace Arch Hospital Foundation or White Rock/S.
