Obituary of Roland F. Chartier


Roland F. Chartier 1935 - 2013 SOUTH HADLEY - Roland F. Chartier, 77, of Broad St. died Saturday February 9, 2013 at Baystate Medical Center. He was born in Chicopee. Roland was the son of the late George and Alma (Couture) Chartier. He served in the United States Marine Corps from 1954 till 1958 and received the Good Conduct Medal. Roland retired from from Acme Chain. He was a avid hunter and enjoyed camping and was a member of PV 8. He was a 4th degree and member of the Knights of Columbus Council # 69. He was predeceased by his sister, Pearl Peloquin. Roland is survived by his wife of 54 years, Jo Ann (Huber) Chartier, his children, Michael A. Chartier, Robert A. Chartier and his wife Heather all of Springfield, James A. Chartier and his companion Michele Ouellette of Chicopee, and Cynthia A. Recoulle and her husband Robert of South Hadley, his brothers, Armand Chartier and his wife Paula of Ludlow, and Leonard Chartier and his wife Louise of Chicopee, his sister, Lucille Antunes and her husband Carl of Chicopee, his brother-in-law, Paul Peloquin and his wife Ruth of Holyoke, also his grandchildren, Nathan Recoulle and his fiance Elizabeth Martino, Elizabeth and Kyrstin Chartier and Alec Ouellette and several nieces and nephews. The funeral for Roland will on Friday morning at 8 am from the Ryder Funeral Home followed by a Funeral Mass at 9 am in St. Theresa's Church both in South Hadley, followed by his burial in the Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Agawam. Calling hours for Roland will be held on Thursday from 4 pm till 7 pm in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to the Charity of ones Choice.
