LaPorte, Robert Natale WALDORF, Md. Suddenly on August 5, 2008, Robert (Bob) LaPorte, passed into Heaven. He died while on a call back special assignment with the Post Office at Fort Belvoir Army Base of an apparent heart attack. Bob was a Christmas baby, born in Albany, N.Y. in the year 1943 to Earl and Antoinette La Porte. Growing up, he was a shy but fun loving young man living in your typical city neighborhood. He attended V.I. Grade School and High School. He played Little League and Babe Ruth baseball. He was a Boy Scout and went to summer camp. Upon completion of high school, Bob went to Colonna Hairdressing School where he graduated but never practiced in the field. Instead, he enlisted in the U.S. Army. For eight years his tour of duty was based primarily in Bancock, Thailand. After completion of his military service, Bob settle down in the suburbs of Md., to raise his family. For a time, Bob worked in sales, then later went to work for the U.S. Post Office, where he became post master and retired after 28 years. He loved New York Giants football and golfing. He is survived by his loving wife, Marie D'Amico LaPorte (both he and his wife were avid Giant football fans); and three daughters, Annette Cox of N.C., Patricia Meyer (Ronnie) of Laurel, Md. and Kimberly Maher (Patrick) of Parkville, Md. Bob leaves behind with us all his memories, his mother, Antoinette Grazziano LaPorte; and two sisters, Angela Helton (Rick who was not only his brother-law but his best friend) of Albany and Nancy Trudeau (Jim) of Guilderland, N.Y. He leaves three nephews, William Ryan, Jeffry Trudeau and Nicholas Helton; and three nieces, Leah Porter, Lynn Martinez and Jennifer Trudeau, who will cherish the good time they spent with their uncle. He was predeceased by his father, Earl LaPorte; brother, Edmund LaPorte; and sister-in-law, Linda LaPorte. Bob, also known as BB, will be missed by his friends at Bunker Hill; and his many associates at the U.S. Post Office. Death ends a life, not a relationship, and its memories for which we as a family have so many. A visitation will be held on Wednesday, August 13, 2008 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at Raymond Funeral Chapel, La Plata, Md. A funeral service will follow on Thursday, August 14, 2008 at 12:30 p.m. at Raymond Funeral Chapel. Interment will take place in Maryland Veterans Cemetery, Cheltenham, Md.
