GOFFSTOWN - Robert L. Dwyer, (Bob) 82, died Dec. 9, 2009, peacefully at his home with his family by his side. He was born in Houlton, Maine, to Merle and Caroline (Pierce) Dwyer and attended schools in Belgrade Lakes and Hodgdon, Maine. Bob served in the U.S. Navy as Machinist's Mate, Third Class aboard the USS Grand Canyon during the years 1946-1948. Upon honorable discharge from the Navy, he attended diesel school in New York. After which, he returned to Houlton, Maine, where he began his career in road and building construction. There, Bob married Carolyn Bickford, started a family and resided in Brunswick, Maine, then Vermont and in 1956 moved to Goffstown where he spent the remainder of his life. He was a member of the Local 98 and the Longshoremen Union I.L.A #1947 for 18 years. Bob was a member of the Bible Lodge F&AM #27 in Goffstown serving as Master in 1972, a 32nd degree Mason and a member of the Bektash Shrine and Bektash Temple Guard. He was a lifetime member of the VFW and a member of the American Legion for many years. He retired in 1992 and spent a few winters in Florida. His enjoyment in the construction field, both professional and personally, has passed on down through the generations of his son and grandsons. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. His greatest joy in life came from "puttering" around his home, snowmobiling, hunting, fishing and making family memories. Bob will be most remembered for his infectious smile and his desire to make those around him smile as well. Family members include his wife of 58 years, Carolyn J. (Bickford) Dwyer, of Goffstown; four daughters, Linda Rollins and her husband David of Allenstown, Sandra Brown and her husband Lawrence of Goffstown, Renee Bartlett and her husband Arthur of Goffstown, Devon Beckwith of Barrington, a son David Dwyer, Sr. of Goffstown; three sisters, Audrey Perry of Mont Dora, FL, Alma Jean Hurd of Houlton, ME, Phyllis McKay of Old Lyme, CT and one brother, Gerald Dwyer of Hampden, ME.
