Obituary of Robert-E. Bowen

ROBERT E.BOWEN, 86 KENTWOOD, MI - Robert E. Bowen, 86, of Kentwood, MI/Winter Haven, FL. passed away peacefully at his home on 15 September 2010. Cause of death congestive heart failure. Bob was preceded in death by his loving wife, Barbara, with whom he spent nearly 60 years. He is survived by his five children; Susan Fisher (preceded by death - Jim) of Breckenridge, William (Virginia) of White Cloud, Michael (Patricia) of Flushing, Patricia Schneider (Douglas) of Cadillac, and Charles (Lisa) of Kentwood; eight grandchildren; Jon Fisher, Julie Fisher, Jennifer Robinson, Michael Bowen, Joseph Bowen, Matthew Schneider, Sara Swanson, and Chloe Bowen; twelve great grandchildren; Caitlin, James, Sydni, Joseph, Kyle, Amber, Cody, Chance, Oscar, Abigail, Rhiannon, and Trenton; one great, great, grandchild; Morgan. Mr. Bowen was a highly decorated WW-II veteran. He enlisted in the Army Air Corps in 1942 as he felt it was his duty to serve and honor the country he loved. S/Sgt. Bowen flew 35 combat missions with the 8th Air Force, 351st Bomb Group, 509th Bomb Squadron, on a B-17 'Flying Fortress' as a 'ball-turret-gunner.' Bob attended General Motors Institute after the war and worked at G.M. in Saginaw, Fisher Body #1 (Flint), Fisher Body Lordstown (Ohio), and retired from Fisher Body Metal Stamping (Grand Rapids MI) in 1981 as a Production Manager. As per his wishes, cremation has taken place and a private memorial service will be held at the family cabin.
