Obituary of Robert-A. Dunlop

Robert A. Dunlop, 81     CAPE ELIZABETH - Robert A. Dunlop, 81, of Cape Elizabeth, passed away on Feb. 23, 2006, at his home after a long illness.     He was born in Casco, the son of Thomas C. and Mabel M. Durgin Dunlop, and received his education in the South Portland schools.     He served in the Navy aboard the aircraft carrier U.S.S. Randolph during World War II, as an aviation machinists mate in the Asian Pacific.     He worked as a painting foreman for many years for Logan Painting. For 25 years before his retirement, he ran his own painting business.     He enjoyed mineral collecting, and had a hobby of making stone jewelry. His other interests included bluegrass music, fishing, and caring for his flower beds. He learned to play the banjo in his later years, and enjoyed attending bluegrass concerts.     He was a proud member of AA for 21 years.     He was predeceased by his first wife of 45 years, Constance N. Dunlop and a grandson, Jonathan B. Dunlop.     He is survived by his wife, Alice Smith Dunlop, of Cape Elizabeth, two sons, Jeffrey and his wife, Joyce of North Windham, Bradford of Sweden, and a brother, C. Wayne Dunlop of Portland. He is also survived by two stepdaughters, Nancy E. DiMauro and husband, Richard of New Gloucester, and Wendy L. Smith and her partner, Lee Bergstrom of Portland and Auburn, a stepson, Glenn Smith of Portland, 8 step-granddaughters and 11 step-great grandchildren.     A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Feb. 25, at 2 p.m. at Thornton Heights United Methodist Church, 100 Westbrook St., South Portland.
