GARDEN CITY BEACH, S.C. Richard Francis Powers of Garden City Beach, S.C. died Thursday, July 10, 2003. Born April 24, 1935 in Albany, N.Y., he was the son of the late Francis and Laura Barnard Powers. Mr. Powers was a retired U.S. Army Master Sergeant with 20 years of service, serving in Vietnam. He taught at West Point from 1971-1975 and was commandant of Christian Brothers Academy from 1975-1978 in Albany, N.Y. where he was also a cross country coach. Mr. Powers was a certified paralegal and had been a teen counselor in N.Y. Surviving are his wife, Barbara M. Powers; sons, Richard Powers of Phoenix, Ariz., Michael Anthony Powers of Los Angeles, Calif. and Christopher Matthew Powers of Albany, N.Y. Services will full military honors will be later in Arlington National Cemetery. Goldfinch Funeral Home, Murrells Inlet, S.C., 843-651-3295, is in charge of arrangements.
