Obituary of Rev. -Gerard Gaudrault

MONTREAL - The Rev. Gerard Gaudrault, p.s.s., 75, died Aug. 5, 2011, in Montreal, Quebec, after a valiant seven-year battle with cancer. He was born on March 25, 1936, in Concord, N.H., to Yvette (Boisvert) and Dr. Gerard-Louis Gaudrault, and later lived in Manchester, N.H. After classical studies at St. Anthony High School in Manchester, N.H., at the College of Montreal and the Seminary of Philosophy and Theological studies, he entered the Grand Seminary of Montreal and was ordained a priest on June 10, 1961, for the diocese of Montreal. He entered the order of Saint Sulpice in 1965. In 1970, he obtained his doctorate in theology at the School of Theology of the University of Montreal. For nearly 50 years, his ministry was to educate the youth at the Jean-Jacques Olier College and the College of Montreal. He also educated religious candidates at the Grand Seminary of St. Boniface, the St. Joseph Seminary of Edmonton, the Grand Seminary of Montreal and the Institute of Theological formation of Montreal until December 2010. He was a competent professor of dogmatic theology, a perfectly bilingual priest who was singularly able to translate for the Supilcian order. He was a member of the editorial staff of the St. Supilcian Bulletin and of the Commission of St. Sulpice priests of Montreal. Whenever Rev. Gaudrault came to Manchester, N.H., on vacation and for holidays, he celebrated Mass at St. George Catholic Church on Pine and Orange streets and volunteered at the Catholic Medical Center. He leaves several nephews and nieces, Edward, David and Daniel Cote, Alice (Cote) Demos, Celeste (Cote) Saucier, Mary Seeber and Margot (Cote) Phelps, as well as many cousins and friends. He was predeceased by his sister, Helene (Gaudrault) Cote. To his family, he will be remembered as a joyous man who loved to jump the waves at Hampton Beach in New Hampshire. His love and strong bond with his sister Helene continues to be a source of strength for the entire family. Uncle Gerry's enveloping laugh, mischievous smile and ability to make his nieces and nephews all feel special will be forever cherished. His appetite for good food, family togetherness and life inspired all who met him. . SERVICES: Calling hours are in the Parlor of the Grand Seminary in Montreal, 2065 rue Sherbrooke West, Montreal, Friday, Aug. 12, from 2 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. The funeral will be Saturday, Aug. 13 at 10 a.m. in the Chapel of the Grand Seminary. He will then be laid to rest in the crypt of the Grand Seminary of Montreal.
