Obituary of Phillip-Joseph Carignan

WINSLOW -- Phillip Joseph Carignan, 33, died unexpectedly Thursday morning. He was born on Jan. 8, 1977, in Waterville, the son of Robert A. Carignan, D.C., of Hartland and Elizabeth A. (McKinley) Carignan of Fairfield.He was the loving father of "Pony Boy" Dempsey Phillip and "Morning Sunshine" Elliot Rose; brother of Sarah Bourgoin of Denver, Colo., Mary Elizabeth Fortier and brother-in-law Michael Fortier of Winslow and Charles R. Carignan of Winslow. Phillip had special aunts and uncles: Donna and Lloyd Bakke, Dennis McKinley, Mary Gaffney, Timothy and Ursula McKinley and Joyce and Kenneth White.Phillip was also the caring uncle of many nieces and nephews, and was close to his many cousins, especially while growing up; he was also close to special friends: Nancy DeRaps, Pat Hunt and Melinda Davis.Phillip attended Canaan Christian School, St. John Catholic School and Winslow High School. He was a member of the Advocacy Initiative Network, an organization that advocates for the voice of adults managing mental health issues, and a member of the Waterville Social Club.Phillip continuously strived to live life to the fullest as he waged the battle with a severe bipolar disorder. He offered love and kindness toward others with mental illness and enjoyed many of their friendships. He will always be remembered for his handsome smile, making folks laugh, his work ethic, his intellect, love of music and love of God.Visiting hours will be held Tuesday from 1 to 3 p.m. at Gallant Funeral Home, 10 Elm St., Waterville, followed by a funeral service at 3 p.m.In lieu of flowers, those wishing, may send a contribution to a fund for Phillip's children to: Elizabeth Carignan c/o Winslow Community Federal Credit Union, 12 Monument St., Winslow, ME 04901.
