->Mathers, Mary E.Mary E. Mathers, 70, formerly of Binghamton, passed away, Sunday, June 24, 2012 at her daughter's home in Homer, N.Y. Born, May 8, 1942 in Binghamton, Mary was the daughter of Francis and Mary Marmas Downey. Mary was employed for many years at Britton Insuring in Binghamton, and was a communicant of St. Thomas Aquinas Roman Catholic Church also in Binghamton. Mary enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and had a great love for animals. A kind and caring woman, Mary made sure everyone was always taken care of, and was generous with her time. Mary was a gracious woman who possessed a great gift of talking with and listening to others which made them always feel welcome. She is survived by two daughters; Elizabeth (Joseph) Congdon, Sr. of Homer, and Theresa (Benjamin) Wright of Medford, Mass., a sister; Kathleen Springfield of Binghamton, two grandchildren; Olivia Congdon and Joseph Congdon, Jr. and many nieces and nephews. Mary was preceded in death by a sister, Margaret Cline and her husband, James L. Mathers. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday at 10 a.m. in St. Thomas Aquinas Roman Catholic Church, Binghamton, N.Y. Prayers of committal will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Johnson City, N.Y. The family would like to thank the University Physicians of Homer, NY, Upstate Regional Oncology Center and Upstate University Hospital for the care for our mother that each provided.
