Obituary of Mary Carver

CARVER, Mary Isabelle (nee Allan) August 27, 1915 - June 25, 2012Mom's strong and loving heart quietly stopped this week. She was a resident of Evergreen House where she received care and kindness from the excellent staff. Her husband Bill (2004), son Graham (2006) and six of her seven siblings predeceased her. Remembering Mom with love are daughter Leslie Clauson (Bob) and children Andrew (Jenn) and Hilary; Graham's children Meagan Anderson (Shawn and baby Callum) and Evan, and their mother Gayle Roberts (Rendell). Mom always kept in touch with our extended family and there are many relatives across the country who immediately think of fun and laughter when they remember Auntie Mary. The early years of great challenges - eight children born on a very poor farm in Saskatchewan, the hardships of the Depression, the death of her own mother at a young age - were remembered by Mom, not for the privations, but for the great camaraderie shared with cousins and neighbours. She left the farm at the beginning of the war to visit a sister in Vancouver, met Dad and stayed; the little prairie girl who never learned to swim always loved the water so this was a fitting place to build a new life. Typical of that special generation, Mom worked very hard all her life, including outside the home when that was very rare. We hold many happy memories in our hearts - the big family dinners, retirement winters spent with several siblings in Arizona, and the cruises which she especially loved. You were a wonderful person, Mom, and we are grateful to have had you in our lives. We'll love you always.
