Obituary of Martha Edwards


Mother Martha Edwards, of Palatka died Monday, July 7, 2008 at Shands of Gainesville, Fl., after an extended illness. She was born on May 10, 1919 in Palatka, Fl., to the parents of the late General Saxton and Gertrude Strickland Bragg. She was a dedicated mother, member and missionary of Zion Temple church of God in Christ for over 60 years. During those years she held positions f Assistant Church Mother, Teacher of the Bible Band and Home Foreign Missions. Mother Edwards was a regular devotional praise leader for Sunday Services, very active with the YPWW (Young People Willing Workers). She was preceded in death by her parents, husband-Deacon Junior Edwards, formerly of Lake City, Fl., Daughter-Geraldine Jefferson Knowles, sister-Rosalee Jordan, brother-Obediah Bragg, sister-in-law Lillian Bragg and a niece-Eliza Thomas. Left forever cherishing her memories: two sons, Horace V. Jefferson, Jr., Palatka/Lake City, Fl., Elijah Lowery (Lucretia), Ormand, Beach/Palatka, Fl., a daughter, Wisteria Stringlers, Jacksonville, sister Ella Lesene, Palatka, brother, Elijah Bragg (Dorothy), Junction City, KS., seven granddaughters: Kalisha Jefferson, St. Augustine, Fl., Sharli Jefferson, St. Louis, MO., LaWanda Gale, Gainesville, Fl., Tameka Lowery, Dunn, NC, Shirley Edwards, Jacksonville, Fl., Rowena McCray, Daytona Beach, Fl., Robin Edwards, Atlanta, GA., five grandsons: Darius J. Jefferson, Sr., (Cecelia) Tallahassee, Fl., Marvin Knowles, Jr., (Charlotte), Newport News, VA., Marion D. Knowles, Jacksonville, Fl., Marshall Burns, Ormand Beach, Fl., Vincent Edwards, Jacksonville, Fl., son-in-law, Marvin Knowles, Sr., Palatka, Fl., sister-in-law, Catherine (Edwards) Postell, Brooklyn New York, formerly of Lake City, Fl., Rosa Edwards, Palatka, Fl., god-daughter, Marva Allen (Nathaniel), Palatka, Fl., god-son, Charlie D. Francis (Linda), Palatka, Fl., special family members Wesley (Buster) Lowery, Palatka, Fl., Judi Jefferson, St. Louis, MO., and Jersuha (Clifford) Rowe, St. Augustine, Fl., also fourteen great grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other sorrowing friends. Funeral service will be held on Sunday, July 13, 2008 at 2:00 P.M. at Mt. Tabor First Baptist church, 4909 St. Johns Avenue, Palatka, Fl. Visitation will be on Saturday, July 12, 2008 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Zion Temple Church of God in Christ, 1601 Bronson Street, Palatka, Fl.
