Obituary of Margaret-Fleming Carolan

CAROLAN Margaret "Rita" Fleming Carolan, age 84, of Trumbull, died on Friday, March 12, 2004, at her residence, surrounded by her loving family. Born in Belfast, Ireland, she was a daughter of the late Thomas and Geraldine Curran Fleming, and had been a resident of Bridgeport for many years. She was retired from Harvey Hubbell Inc. Rita was a member of the Gaelic American Club and the Cursillo of Fairfield County. In earlier years she was an active contributor to the community of service at Sacred Heart Parish in Bridgeport, and to the many clubs and organizations of which her children participated in. She enjoyed spirited dialogue and heartfelt sharing in the company of those she loved. Rita also enjoyed bingo, cards and games and her many travels around the world, but her greatest pleasure was spending time with her cherished family. Mrs. Carolan was predeceased by her husband, Thomas; a brother, Richard Fleming; three sisters, Geraldine Devlin, Nancy Connolly and Marie Fleming; a grandson, Eamon Smith-Carolan; and her son-in-law, Thomas Sloat. She is survived by her children, Thomas Carolan and his wife, Marsha, of Okemos, Mich., Paul Smith-Carolan and his wife, Cathy, of Brooklyn, Conn., Richard Carolan and his wife, Julie, of Petaluma, Calif., Patrick Carolan and his wife, Stella, of Stratford, Geraldine Sloat of Trumbull, and Sean Carolan and his wife, Gwen, of Walnutport, Pa.; two brothers, James Fleming of Stratford, and Thomas Fleming of Lehigh Acres, Fla.; a sister, Selina Fleming of Lehigh Acres; grandchildren, Tristan, Aliah and her husband, Rigo, Kelsi, Siobhian, Theeus and Danna, Taram and his wife, Cindi, Maggi, Dina and David, Jenna, Brianna, Delvon, Sean, Brian, Adam, Ryan, Matthew and Caitlin; and many nieces and nephews. Friends are invited to meet directly in St. Theresa Church, 5301 Main Street, Trumbull, for a Mass of Christian Burial, on Tuesday, March 16, 2004, at 10 a.m. Interment will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Trumbull. In lieu of flowers, those desiring can make memorial contributions to the Cursillo of Fairfield County through the funeral home. Friends may call on Monday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Road, Trumbull.
