Obituary of Margaret-Elizabeth-Rose-Champagne Owens

A Mass of Christian Burial for Margaret Elizabeth Rose Champagne Owens, who went to be with the Lord on October 16, 2009 will be celebrated Tuesday, October 27, 2009 at 9:00 AM at the Basilica of St. Paul Catholic Church, 317 Mullally Street Daytona Beach with Father Charles Nabwana as celebrant. Following, Margaret will be buried at Daytona Memorial Gardens next to parents. She was born on October 9, 1929 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin to Alfred J. Champagne and Margaret Popa Champagne. Margaret worked as a waitress in various restaurants about town including Black's Pharmacy, Ormond Beach, Walgreens, and Hancock's Tru View Grill, Daytona Beach. Margaret won an award from Smithfield Ham for promoting and selling the most pork sandwiches as she managed the restaurant in Eckerd's, at the Holly Hill Plaza while she raised her four children. After her children left home, Margaret started her second career attending Daytona Beach Community College and graduating as a License Practical Nurse. She worked in Halifax Hospital for 8 years, when she had to have a lung removed from cancer. After a five year recovery, Margaret went back to work at Huntington Nursing Home. She enjoyed taking care of people. She was a member of the Basilica of St. Paul Catholic Church, the VFW Post 1590 and the Moose Club. Her husband of 49 years, Kelton LaVere Owens, preceded her in death by 10 years. Margaret is survived by her children, Clair Margaret, Daytona Beach, Kelton, Jr., Deerfield Beach, FL, Mary Jean, Kissimmee, FL and John P., world traveler. Her grandchildren include, Shawn L. Owens, Napoleon L. Owens, John M. Davey, Joseph C. Ireland, Patrick T. Owens, Kelton G. Ireland and Rose M. Davey. Margaret's great grandchild is Travis Owens. She is survived by her brothers and sister, Alfred "Ollie" Champagne, Beaver Falls, PA, Gordon R. Champagne, Cottonwood AZ, Joan C. Deem, Port Orange, FL and Joseph S. Champagne Coral Springs, FL.
