Obituary of Mary-Leone Norton

Mary Leone Norton, 92 years old and a Cortlandt Manor resident for over 50 years and Palm Desert, CA died September 16, 2003 at the Hudson Valley Hospital Center. She was born on December 4, 1910 in Dubuque, IA to Patrick J. and Minnie Regan Norton. Mary worked as a medical social worker for the FDR VA Hospital in Montrose for 20 years, before retiring in the 1980's. She was beloved by all who knew her for her graciousness, kindness and sense of humor. She was a member of the Van Cortlandt Historical Society. She enjoyed traveling with her family. She graduated from the Visitation Academy and Clark College, both in Dubuque, IA; St. Louis University in St. Louis; Catholic University in DC and Columbia University in NYC. In the 1950's, she was the Director of Social Work at the NY Infirmary in NYC. Mary is survived by her daughter, Jane Norton, M.D. of Cortlandt Manor and Palm Desert, CA; her son, Michael Norton, Esq. and his wife, Christina of Stamford, CT; and her granddaughter, Rebecca Norton of Stamford, CT. She was predeceased by her husband, Michael Espejo Norton, who died in 1992. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 am Monday at the Church of the Assumption in Peekskill. Family will receive friends at the E.O. CURRY FUNERAL HOME, 313 No. James St., Peekskill on Sunday from 7-9 pm only.
