Lee F. Adams, 52 SEATTLE, Wash. -- Lee Adams died in a climbing accident on Tuesday, July 27, 2010, on Mt. Rainier near Seattle. Lee was the eldest son of Evelyn S. Sawyer of Freeport, and Lee F. Adams Jr. of New Vineyard. He was born in Portland and attended Freeport schools. He graduated from Middlebury College and received a Ph.D. from Cornell in 1986. Lee was a scientist with the Institute for Systems Biology in Seattle, Wash. Lee's passion was the outdoors, the mountains and the water. As a child in Maine, he sailed in Freeport, skied, climbed the Maine mountains, and fished and hunted with his beloved grandfather Ellis Snodgrass. When he moved to Seattle, he discovered the big mountains, and spent most weekends back-country skiing and climbing. He is survived by his mother, Evelyn S. Sawyer of Freeport, his father, Lee F. Adams Jr. of New Vineyard; a brother, Ellis C. Adams of Seattle, Wash., a sister Dale Stair of Cumberland Center; and a nephew, Parker Stair. Lee died doing what he loved. A service will be held on Saturday, Aug. 14, at 2 p.m., at the South Freeport Church, followed by burial in the South Freeport cemetery. Memorial donations may be sent to the Maine Nature Conservancy. Lee F. Adams
