Laurent "Larry" Marcoux June 25, 1926 - August 06, 2004 Funeral arrangements by Desjardins Funeral Chapel LAURENT (LARRY) MARCOUX It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Laurent G. Marcoux on Friday, August 6, 2004 at the St. Boniface Hospital, after a lengthy illness. He leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife of 50 years, Jacqueline, and five children: Laurent Jr. (Lise), Michel (Cheryl), Jocelyne (Serge), Alain and Guy. He will also be remembered by his sister Blanche Sicotte, his sister-in-law Marcelle and his brothers Omer (Jeanne) and Lucien (Thérèse). He dearly loved his grandchildren, Pierre, André, Manon, Joelle, Philippe, Tomas, Tessa, Dominique, Janelle and Maxime. His greatest joy was family life at the cottage on Falcon Lake surrounded by the laughter of the grandchildren. He was deeply committed throughout his life to community service, with a keen interest in health and education. He was a charter member of the Cancer Foundation of Manitoba and served on the Advisory Board of the St. Boniface Hospital. He was Chairman of the St. Boniface and Misericordia Schools of Nursing. He served for a number of years as a member of the School Board for the St. Boniface School Division and was a Director of the Family Bureau of Winnipeg. He made a significant contribution to the French-speaking community of Manitoba, serving as President of the Association des Commissaires d’écoles françaises du Manitoba, as a Director of both CKSB la radio-française and the Fondation CKSB. He was also a founding member of the Club des hommes d’affaires de langue française du Manitoba. A lawyer, senior partner in the law firm of Marcoux, Bétournay, Labossière, he was appointed Queen’s Counsel in 1969 and later appointed by Prime Minister Trudeau to the Board of Directors of the Central Mortgage and Housing Corporation of Canada. He was also an Honorary Life Member of the Knights of Columbus, Council 3158. He was husband, father, brother and friend: he will be remembered as a kind, loving and compassionate man. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Parkinson Society Canada – Manitoba Region, 204 - 825 Sherbrook Street, Winnipeg, MB R3A 1M5. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, August 10 at 10:30 a.m. at the Saints-Martyrs-Canadiens Roman Catholic Church, 289 Dussault Avenue, presided by Father Marcel Toupin.
