Obituary of Joseph-M. Jaworski

Joseph M. Jaworski February 19, 2010 Joseph M. Jaworski,91, of Syracuse, passed away Friday. Born in Syracuse, he graduated from Blodgett Vocational and served in the Syracuse Police Department for over 36 years. He retired in 1981 as a lieutenant and had served under eight different police chiefs. He was awarded several citations and was a member of the 25 Blue Ribbon Squad. Joseph proudly served his country as a member of the U.S. Army for 4 1/2 years and was awarded the Bronze Star Medal for his service during WWII. He was a life member of VFW Post 3146 Mattydale, a member of American Legion Post 14, Syracuse Police Retiree Association, the Polish Home, Sacred Heart Seniors and the West End Seniors. He was a communicant of the Basilica of the Sacred Heart of Jesus and an original member of the Holy Name Society. He was predeceased by his first wife, Stella Koczara Jaworski, in 1960; his sister, Jane Kowalewski; and his brother, Henry Jaworski. Joseph's true love in life was his family, and he was as passionate about watching them grow as he was about growing his roses and tending his garden.Survivors: his loving wife of 46 years, Marcia (Therre) Jaworski; three daughters, Sally (John) Cyran of Loudonville, Sister Melanie Jaworski, CSSF, of Syracuse and Marcia (Tom) Ditch of Onondaga Hill; two sisters, Frances (Edwin) Justian and Constance Dems; three grandchildren, Jonathan Cyran and Andrea and Tommy Ditch; and several nieces and nephews.Services: 10 a.m. Monday at GIMINSKI-WYSOCKI FUNERAL HOME and 10:30 a.m. at the Basilica of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. Interment: Sacred Heart Cemetery, Geddes. Friends may call upon the family from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday at 1320 W.
