Obituary of John Neville

John Lawrence Neville, 83, husband of Elizabeth Gilden Neville, of 119 North Highway 11, West Union, S.C., died Thursday, July 9, 2009, at St. Francis Regency Hospital in Greenville.Born in Savannah, Ga., Mr. Neville was the son of the late McCurry and Marjorie VanDiviere Neville. He was a merchant and member of Walhalla Presbyterian Church. He served many years as a volunteer fireman with the West Union and Walhalla Fire Departments, and served several terms on West Union Town Council. Mr. Neville attended Clemson University prior to his service in the U.S. Navy and was a graduate of Furman University.In addition to his wife of the home, Mr. Neville is survived by son, Johnny Neville of Bradenton, Fla.; daughter, Margie N. McDuffie of West Union; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday, July 13, 2009, from the Chapel of Davenport Funeral Home with burial to follow in West View Cemetery.The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, July 12, 2009, at Davenport Funeral Home.Flowers are accepted or memorials may be made to the charity of one's choice.The family is at the residence.Condolences may be sent to the family by visiting www.davenportfuneralhome.comDavenport Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
