December 12, 1935 – August 4, 2011John passed away in Port Alberni at Ty Watson House on Thursday, August 4, 2011 at the age of 75 after a courageous battle with cancer with family at his side. He is survived by his loving wife, Mabel; daughters, Joanne and Heather; son, Dean; daughter-in-law, Debbie; 2 granddaughters, Brittany and Courtney; sister, Tina; brothers, George, Abe, Jake, Gary, Wes, and families, along with several nieces and nephews. John is predeceased by his parents, John and Tena Schroeder.John could make friends with everyone he met. He loved Port Alberni and dedicated his life to his family and friends.John worked for over 30 years for Somass Division as a supervisor where he proudly created the "Schroederberg Finger Joint" (as shown in photo).A long standing volunteer fireman for the Cherry Creek Fire Department, Bingo caller for the Legion, blood donor for the Canadian Red Cross, coach of several softball teams, curler, golfer and horseshoe player. He liked to spend his afternoons at Tim Horton's and his evenings at the Casino.He will be forever missed and loved by his family.A Celebration of Life will be held at the Royal Canadian Legion Br. 293, 4680 Victoria Quay, Port Alberni, BC on Saturday, August 13, 2011 at 1:30 pm.In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in John's memory to Ty Watson House, 2649 2nd Avenue, Port Alberni, BC V9Y 1Z8.Arrangements entrusted to Qualicum Beach Funeral Centre, 101-664 Beach Road, Qualicum Beach, 250-594-0305.
