PRITCHARD, Jane (Marjorie) - We are deeply saddened to announce Jane's passing on Saturday, August 18, 2012 at Mount Sinai Hospital, Toronto, at the age of 68 after a long illness bravely born. Predeceased by Marjorie Louvain Pritchard (nee Pibworth) and Leslie Pritchard of Toronto. Dearly loved sister of Lillian Murphy, Winnipeg, and Kathleen Therrien (John), Toronto. Loving aunt of Cheryl, Lindsay, Anne-Marie and David. Proud great-aunt of Gabriella, Simon, Eve and Madeleine. Treasured friend of many. Jane graduated from Mimico High School and worked for the Toronto Public Library for many years, specializing in giving puppet shows and teaching crochet. After struggling for years with depression, Jane found her voice as an advocate for consumer/survivors of the mental health system. She was a member of numerous committees, sat on the boards of various agencies, and lectured at the University of Toronto, York University, Ryerson and Humber College. She was a member of the Dream Team advocating for supportive housing for those dealing with a mental illness. At sixty, Jane achieved a lifetime goal of a safari to Africa, visiting Kenya and Tanzania, later having a gallery show of photographs taken there. Avid reader, cook, gardener and photographer. Cherished family celebrations and meals with friends. Thoughtful of others and generous to the end. Funeral Mass Wednesday, August 22, 11:00 a.m. at St. Pius X Church, 2305 Bloor Street West. Friends may call at the Turner & Porter Yorke Chapel, 2357 Bloor St. W., at Windermere, east of Jane subway, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday, August 21. A celebration of Jane's life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, a donation to Hospice Toronto or the Dorothy Ley Hospice would be appreciated.
