Wetumpka<!--Wetumpka-->Funeral for James Waddell Shepard, 84, of Wetumpka will be today, March 19, 2007, at 2 p.m. at Mount Zion Baptist Church with the Rev. Ed Frantz officiating and Radney Funeral Home of Alexander City directing. The body will be at the church one hour before the service. Burial will be in the adjoining cemetery with Vet-eran’s Honors provided by the U.S. Army. Visitation will be tonight from 5 to 9 at the funeral home. Mr. Shepard, who died Friday, March 16, 2007, at his residence, was born July 5, 1922, in Jackson’s Gap, Ala., to Ray Shepard and Mary Valley Hancock Shepard. He worked as a heavy equipment operator with Local 320 Operating Engineers and was contracted primarily to the Tennessee Valley Authority. He enjoyed bird hunting, bee keeping and farming. He was a football standout and the Alexander City High School and was offered a scholarship to play at the Universtiy of Alabama, but answered his country’s call to serve in the armed forces instead. He was a World War II Veteran of the U.S. Army. His wife, Verna Lou Shepard, a son, John L. Shepard, and his parents, him in death. Survivors include two daughters, Wynelle Beck-ham (Timothy Earl) of Courtland, and Adelle Hutchins (Richard) of Wetumpka; and three grandchildren, Allan McCullough (LeAnn) of Somerville, Jennifer Rowe (Daniel), and Austin Hutchins, all of Wetumpka.Condolences may be sent to the family at www.radney funeralhome.com.
