Obituary of James O-Dowd

James O'Dowd, 78, of Maplewood, N.J., passed away on Tuesday, Aug. 21, 2012. A graveside service will be held at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, 125 Central Ave., East Orange, N.J., on Friday, Aug. 24, 2012, at 11 a.m. Arrangements are under the direction of Quinn-Hopping Funeral Home, Livingston, N.J. Born in County Sligo, Ireland, James lived in Maplewood for many years. He was a retired police sergeant with the Maplewood Police Department, where he served for 33 years before his retirement. James was a graduate of Seton Hall Prep and attended Seton Hall University. He served his country in the Army during peacetime. He was a member of the N.J. PBA and the VFW. James was predeceased by a brother, Sean O'Dowd, and is survived by his sister-in-law, Mary Christine O'Dowd; a niece, Elizabeth O'Dowd, and a nephew, Eamonn Anthony O'Dowd, all of England, and four cousins, Anne Moore, Janet Chiaravallo, Pat Formisano and Bette O'Hare.
