James Marion Whitlock, 75, of 205 Spartanburg Road, widower of Mildred Gosnell Whitlock, died Feb. 25, 2001, at his home. A native of Spartanburg County, son of the late Maynard and Marie Sanders Whitlock. He was a retired employee of Startex Mills. He was a U.S. veteran of the Korean War, where he was awarded the Combat Infantryman's Badge and the Bronze Star Medal with V-Device for Valor. He was a lifetime member of VFW Post 9539, a member of Tucupau Masonic Lodge, Moose Lodge, and Mid City Shrine Club. Surviving are two aunts, Hilda Page of Greenville, and Lelia Heatherly of Clinton; and a number of cousins. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at The Wood Mortuary, Greer, conducted by the Rev. William Page. Burial will be held at Wood Memorial Park at 11 a.m. Military rites will be conducted by VFW Post 9539 at the graveside. Pallbearers will be the VFW Military Team. Visitation will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. tonight at The Wood Mortuary. The families are at their respective homes. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to VFW Post 9539, P.O. Box 5083, Spartanburg, SC 29304.
