NEVILLE, James Edward The Neville family is saddened to announce the passing of James Edward Neville, peacefully on February 18, 2015 at the age of 87. Born and raised in Winnipeg, Ted graduated from the University of Manitoba in 1949, before joining Canadian Westinghouse in Hamilton and completing his Master of Engineering at the erstwhile Nova Scotia Technical College. From 1951 until his retirement in 1989, he held various positions in Montreal Engineering Company (Monenco), including that of VP Engineering and VP Canadian Operations. He was actively involved on high-voltage direct current projects with Teshmont in Winnipeg, and the first 500kVac transmission system in Alberta. To his peers, 'Ed' was considered one of the world's leading power systems engineers. As a young engineer his work took him to many places around the world, from Iqaluit to Venezuela and later to the Middle East, Africa and Asia. A highlight of his career saw him living in Rio de Janeiro with his family from 197l to 1975, where his hand-picked team undertook the ground work for the Itaipu dam, until recently the largest hydro power project in the world. He is survived by Jackie, his wife and best friend for the past sixty-six years, and their five children and spouses: Ted (Susan), Peter (Giselle), Rosemary (Barry), Chris (Lucie) and Brian (Tania). In time, he became the proud grandfather of Mark, Inez, Jacqueline, Stephen and Anna Frances. He enjoyed his retirement among family at his home in Westmount, Quebec, and at their cottage in Dunany, indulging in golf, his love of music and reading. Along with the tireless support of his wife, his final days were eased immeasurably by his dedicated physicians, Drs. Peter Vaktor and Barry Slapcoff, his therapists, and the home care team of the CLSC-Metro. Ted was a loving father and husband, and a man of unstinting generosity and compassion, with a terrific sense of humour. He will be sorely missed. For those wishing to attend, visitation hours have been reserved for Monday, February 23, 2015 between 6:00 and 9:00 p.m. at the Collins Clarke MacGillivray White Funeral Home (5610 Sherbrooke St. West). The family warmly welcomes all friends to a Funeral Service at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, February 24, 2015 at the Ascension of Our Lord Parish (375 Kitchener Avenue.)
