1918 - 2015Jacques Anker Silva passed away peacefully on 2-8-2015 in Laguna Woods, CA where he has resided for the past 6 years.Jack was born in Staten Island, NY on 2-27-1918. After graduating from Curtis High School in 1935, he received a BA degree from City College of New York in 1939,and an MBA from New York University. He married Jane Poehn in 1941.Jack was a proud veteran of WWII, serving most of his naval career as an officer in the North Atlantic. He enlisted in the US Navy in 1940 and retired in 1945 as a Lt. Commander.After the war, Jack moved from Manhattan to Maplewood, NJ where he became president and owner of Radio-Matic of America, a manufacturing business of audio-visual equipment. In 1946, he was one of the first to put coin-operated radios in hotel rooms.Jack was a passionate tennis player and an active member of the Maplewood Little Club. He loved skiing, traveling, and photography, often using his own darkroom for print-making. He received much recognition for his involvement in many community activities and philanthropic projects including the United Way, Orange Orphan Society, and Camp Rising Sun, an international program for gifted students. Throughout his entire life, he enjoyed history and current events, avidly reading 3 newspapers every day. Jack is survived by his wife Jane, daughter Candace, son-in-law Norman, as well as his grandchildren, Kinnon and Jennifer, and his 5 great-grandchildren. He was dearly loved and admired by his family and will be greatly missed.
