Obituary of James Locke


LOCKE, JAMES, age 79, of Winter Park went home to heaven on March 7, 2005. A resident of Arden Courts, Winter Springs, Jim is survived by his wife of 54 years, Nina; and three children, Marjorie Bridges, Diana Smith, and John Locke; grandchildren, Darin Bridges, Ryan Bridges, James Bridges, Lisa Miller, Chelsea Locke, and Spencer Locke; great-granddaughter, Jordan Miller; and sister, Jane McGrory. Born in Dayton, Ohio, Mr. Locke was educated at Rye Country Day School in New York and The Taft School in Connecticut. At age 16 he entered Miami University of Ohio, enlisted in the Navy in WWII, and served in the South Pacific. After attending The University of Virginia, he worked for IBM and later as a manager for New York Life. He moved his family to Winter Park in 1957 where he continued in the insurance business. In 1969, he began a personal relationship with Jesus Christ and became active in church and ministry activities until recent years, when he was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease. Jim was a member of First Baptist Church of Winter Park. He loved his family, fishing, going to his cabin in NC, and most of all, helping and giving to others. Everyone knew Jim as a gentleman. A Memorial Service will be held Saturday at 10:30AM at First Baptist Church of Winter Park, 1021 N. New York Avenue. In lieu of flowers, gifts may be made to Jesus Film Project at PO Box 628222, Orlando 32862 or the Alzheimer's Assoc., 988 Woodcock Road, Orlando 32803.
