Obituary of Howard Norton


UntitledHOWARD C. NORTON1939-2007Howard Norton, age 67, of Pensacola, passed away on Saturday, September 15, 2007 after his courageous battle with cancer. Howard was born on December 15, 1939 in Ft. Edward, New York. He moved with his family to Cantonment, FL in 1952 and graduated from Tate High School in 1958. During his life he served 3 years in the United States Army and worked for 36 years at Champion Paper Mill in Cantonment where he retired in 1998. Howard was an avid golfer, sports enthusiast and a lifelong Florida Gators fan. He also was a member of the American Legion Post 340 and the Navy League.Howard was preceded in death by his parents, Bill and Mildred Norton; and brother, Bud Norton. He is survived and will be forever missed by his longtime companion and fiancé, Kandy Tolbert of Pensacola; one daughter, Wendy Norton Gunn, one son, Keith Norton of Cantonment; two sisters, Eileen Robinson of Cantonment; Barbara Owen and her husband Don, of Deridder, LA; and one sister in law, Dot Norton, of Cantonment. He was ?Kpaw? to his five grandchildren, Megan Maughon, and her husband Kirk of Milton, Steven Gunn, Taylor Norton, Paige Norton and Briar Norton of Cantonment and his two great grandchildren, Reauna and Riley Maughon of Milton; one uncle of Cantonment, one aunt and one uncle of New York; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He will also be greatly missed by golfing buddies, neighbors and longtime friends.Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, September 19, 2007 at Faith Chapel Funeral Home North-Cantonment with Father Thomas Koyickal officiating. Interment will follow at Spruell Cemetery.Serving, as pallbearers will be Donny Owen Jr., Billy Owen, Terry Norton, Andy Robinson, Chris Norton and Steven Gunn. Honorary pallbearers will be Randy Robinson, Jimmy Norton, Mike Norton, Kenny Norton and Kirk Maughon.The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday, September 18, 2007 from 6 pm until 8 pm. The family would like to give a special thanks to Dr. Thomas Sunnerbery and staff at The Cancer Center, Covenant Hospice and Dr. Willingham and his staff at the Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, Fl. FAITH CHAPEL FUNERAL HOME North 1000 Highway 29 South Cantonment is in charge of arrangements.
