Obituary of Helen Owen


HELEN OWEN NORTH PORT Helen Y. Owen, born Helen Young Ferry, passed away peacefully Friday, April 18th, 2008. She was born in Honolu lu, Hawaii and was a witness to the Pearl Harbor tragedy. She left her homeland in the 1960s to come to the mainland with her two youngest children to pursue her dreams. She also performed the hula for special events. She enjoyed camping in the various national parks and eventually found her passion in nursing. Nothing was too challenging for this great lady. She raised her children, always providing and nurturing their needs. The last challenge she completed was to get her RN license from BCC while in her 80s. Helen was preceded in death by her son, Richard B. Medeiros and her beloved husband, Malcolm A. Medeiros. She is survived by her daugh ters, Helen Kehaulani Medeiros, Elizabethann Leiola Jimison and Terrilynne Leialoha Pindell; sisters, Phyllis and Cris; five grandchildren and five great grandchildren. A celebration of her life will be held at McKee Funeral Home in North Port, Florida on Sunday, April 20th at 2 p.m. Hawaiian attire suggested. Her ashes will be combined with her native home in Kailua, Hawaii and the Pacific Ocean that she love so much at a later celebra tion.
