Obituary of Gordon-Alfred Hansen

HANSEN, Gordon Alfred Born December 29th, 1949, lost his battle with cancer and passed away peacefully on September 28, 2005. Gord was born in Tofino, where he spent most of his life. He attended the University of Victoria, then returned to Tofino, where he fished commercially and soon joined the coast guard. He was a dedicated employee of the coastguard for 32 years and had just retired this past spring. He joined the Tofino Ambulance in 1986 and was still active as Unit Chief until recently, when he became too ill to work. Gord was a member of A.A. for 21 years. A tremendous amount of people have benefited from his timeless dedication to A.A. He had many interests; he loved the outdoors, golfing, darts, crib, cars, animals, clam-digging, mushrooming, and being on the ocean. He loved to garden and was an eager protege of his favorite expert, Aunt Stella. His ever-present stellar sarcastic sense of humour reeled in many and often captured ones who thought they were wise to it. Gord was quiet and introspective. He was such a caring person, which was evident in his choice of careers and with his many personal relationships. Gordon was predeceased by his brother Karl, in 1972. He is survived by his children, Gail Ann, Ariana, and Callum, his wife, Caro, his parents, Alfred and Violet, his sisters, Diane, Joanne, Marilee and Leanne, his brothers, Arnold, Donald, and Michael, his inlaws, nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles, and his good friend Keith Jamieson. He will be greatly missed by his family and his many dear friends. Donations to Tofino Hospital Society, for the Palliative Care Room. A wonderful tribute was given to Gordon, on October 1st, in Tofino. 171496
