Obituary of Gloria I. Hemlin

of Ashby; 89 ASHBY -- Gloria I. (Kangas) Hemlin, 89, of Ashby, died Saturday, April 21, in UMass Medical Center in Worcester surrounded by loved ones.Gloria was born in Fitchburg on August 19, 1922, daughter of the late William and Hilja (Koskinen) Kangas. She graduated from Fitchburg High School in the class of 1940, where she received a Gold F, and was a member of the Alumni Association there.She was previously employed by Worker's Credit Union, the Peterson Company, and Micro Tool Company of Ashby, where she served as treasurer.She was a longtime member of the American Legion Post 361 Auxiliary.Gloria enjoyed traveling and traveled to many places, including Finland, Australia, and Hawaii.She leaves several nieces and nephews; and many dear friends. She also leaves her loving cat, Tiger.She was predeceased by her husband, William Hemlin in 1961, and her brother, Eino Kangas, who was killed in WWII on the USS Jacob Jones.HEMLIN -- The funeral will be held in Brandon Funeral Home, 305 Wanoosnoc Rd., Fitchburg, on Sunday, April 29, 2012 at 1:00 P.M. A calling hour will precede the service from 12-1 P.M. Burial will follow in Glenwood Cemetery, Ashby.
