Lee, Gilbert F.Dec. 24, 1914 - April 27, 2007Gilbert Lee, 92, Arcadia, died April 27, 2007.Services will be 1 p.m. Monday at New Hope Christian Church, Arcadia. Ponger-Kays-Grady Funeral Home handled arrangements.Survivors include sons D. Gary of Oceanside, Calif., and Richard D. of Lapeer, Mich.; daughters Bonnie Quigley of West Palm Beach, Nancy P. Wroe of Arcadia and Barbara J. of Clearwater; brothers Robert E. of California and Theodore R. of Casper, Wyo.; a sister, Marjorie H. Evinger of Terre Haute, Ind.; eight grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.Gilbert is preceded in death by his beloved wife of 59 years, Elizabeth, in 1999.Gilbert is also survived by his daughters-in-law, Jennie (D. Gary) and Donna (Richard D); and sons-in-laws Joe (Bonnie) Quigley and Oliver (Nancy) Wroe.Gilbert retired from the Navy as a chief quartermaster petty officer, having served most of his 20 years aboard submarines during World War II. He was aboard the USS Flounder, a submarine that was involved in the only collision with another U.S. submarine, the USS Hoe, in the South Philippine Sea. He was a member of Submarine Veterans of World War II. Upon his retirement from the Navy, he began a 10-year career with the Coastal and Geodetic Survey Company in California He helped to maintain the coastal waters and shores of California, Alaska and Hawaii.
