Newman, Frederick OlinSept. 23, 1929 - Sept. 21, 2008Frederick Olin Newman, 78, of Sarasota since 1995, and formerly of Chattanooga, Tenn., died Sept. 21, 2008.Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. Thursday at Wiegand Brothers Funeral Home, Sarasota. Survivors include his wife of 54 years, P. Jeanne; a son, Frederick Stuart of Chattanooga, Tenn.; a daughter, Amy Newman-O'Donnell of St. Louis; and a brother, Anthony W. of West Hartford, Conn.He is also survived by three grandchildren Sarah O'Donnell, Katie O'Donnell and Chris Newman. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Humane Society of Sarasota, 2331 15th St., Sarasota, FL 34237.He was a basketball star at Hall High School, Hilyer College and UCONN where he also played varsity golf. He served in the Air Force with 301st Bomb Wing during the Korean conflict. He was also a star basketball player for the Air Force base team at Kimpo AFB-Korea and Barksdale AFB, La.Mr. Newman started his career with Travelers Insurance in Hartford, Conn., and continued his career in trust banking. He was the founder and president of the Southern Trust Conference, president of Trust Bankers Association and was president and founder of the Estate Planning Council at Chattanooga, Tenn. He retired from SunTrust Bank as senior vice president and marketing director. He enjoyed his retirement with his family and friends, and enjoyed golfing at Stoneybrook Country Club.
