Obituary of Florence-A. Regan

REGAN Florence A. Regan, Gold Star Mother 9/4/23-2/16/07 Beloved mother, grandmother and great grandmother died peacefully surrounded by her family at Lakeland Regional Hospital from respiratory failure. Born Florence Bacon of Bronx, NY, she was the youngest of 8 children. Her father, Robert died when she was 4 while working on the railroad. The small pension her mother (Mary) received help get the family through the Depression. She spoke fondly of her mother, who would feed those who came to the door asking for food. This fostered a selfless generosity in Florence, always ready to give without a thought for herself. In 1941, she married Cornelius Regan of Manhattan. He soon re-enlisted in the Marine Corp. and fought in the pacific theater during WWII. They moved to the Woodside Houses of Queens in 1950 where they raised 6 children. Their eldest son, Martin Joseph, was killed in Vietnam in 1969 while serving with the Marine Corp. Florence worked for many years as a cashier at Stevens on Steinway Street. 1980 she followed her daughters down to Florida where she worked as a cashier at Morrison's Cafeteria in Altamonte Springs for 21 years. She then retired to Jacksonville to live with her daughter Mary Burgess and grandson Garrett. Florence leaves behind 5 children: Maureen Regan of Orlando, Pat Abad and Eileen Regan of Lakeland, Neil Regan of San Diego and Mary Burgess of Jacksonville; 7 grandchildren: John Herrmann, Laura Harris Leigh Harris, Kevin, Kelly and Jamie Abad and Garrett Burgess; and 6 great grandchildren: Jackson, Haley, Morgan, Lauren, Leah, and Aiden. Florence will be buried with her husband and son at Long Island National Cemetery in Farmington, NY. There will be a memorial service for her in the spring.
