Obituary of Evelyn Rein


Evelyn Rein (Soderstrom), of Morehead, KY (recently of Hudson, MA) passed away on July 20, 2011 after a brief illness. The daughter of Swedish immigrants, she dedicated much of her life to the service of God in the Scandinavian community. She spent over 25 years in distinguished service as a Salvation Army officer in New York, Massachusetts, and Pennsylvania. Her life was enriched by experiences in the corps community center as well as in the administration of drug and alcohol rehabilitation centers. After her service to The Salvation Army, she served as the director of The Alma Mathews House, a New York City guest residence house owned by the General Board of Global Ministries of the United Methodist Church. She retired to Kentucky approximately 12 years ago, and lived there until her husband passed away. She returned to Massachusetts and resided with her daughter, Karen, in Hudson until earlier this year. Mrs. Rein was predeceased by her husband, John Rein. She is survived by one brother, Karl Soderstrom of Stony Brook, New York; two daughters, Kris (George) Barker and Karen (Bill) Latzka; two sons, Jim (Christine) Korp and Ken Korp; seven grandchildren - Erek, Jillian, Alex, Brian, Mariah, Lynn, and John; and three great-grandchildren. She attended the First Church of God in Morehead, Kentucky, but remained a member of the First United Methodist Church in Hudson. A memorial service for Evelyn Rein will be held at the First United Methodist Church in Hudson, on Saturday, July 30th at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Agape Caf in care of the First United Methodist Church, 34 Felton Street, Hudson, MA 01749.
