Obituary of Ethel Hudson


HUDSON Ethel (nee Morris), 92, passed away peacefully on April 19, 2011. Predeceased by her husband Clement (1994), she was the devoted mother of Timothy of Franklin Lakes, Edward of Hilton Head, SC., Virginia Gunderson of Olympia, WA., Thomas of Houston, TX, James of Southport, NC., Peter of Ringwood and Elizabeth Wolf of Tenafly. Ethel was the loving grandmother to fifteen grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren. Her family meant everything to her. Born in Paterson, she lived in River Edge for over 60 years and was committed to community service and volunteerism. She delivered Meals on Wheels for 40 years, taught ESL, volunteered at the Baby Keep Well program in River Edge and New Milford, volunteered for the Emmanuel Cancer Foundation, the USS Ling Submarine Museum, local political candidates, Little League and was one of the founding members of the River Edge Swim Club. She drove neighbors into NYC for chemotherapy and organized community efforts to help those who needed meals, support, visits, rides and babysitting. She was selfless and filled with kindness and energy. She was concerned about and interested in everyone she met. Ethel is predeceased by her beloved sisters, Edna Kennedy, Virginia Ahearn and Helen Gregory and brothers, Jerry and Walter. Funeral services will be private.
