Obituary of Elizabeth-R. Wheeler

LEWISTON - Elizabeth R. "Betty" Wheeler, 66, a resident of Monmouth, died Monday, June 30, 2008, at Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston, with family and friends at her side. She was born May 5, 1942, in Cambridge, Mass., the daughter of Gaetano R. and Ella M. Poth Agresti. Elizabeth attended Farmington High School and completed her GED through the Monmouth/Winthrop Adult Education Program. On Nov. 5, 1960, in Auburn, she married Donald E. Wheeler Sr. Donald passed away in 1996. Elizabeth and Donald moved to Monmouth in 1961, where they raised their five children on the farm and lived there until Donald's death. Elizabeth had been a shoe shop worker and did general office work, having worked for the Maine Department of Labor Department of Vital Records, and Spectrum Generations. She enjoyed gardening, working in her flower and vegetable gardens; Elizabeth was very proud of her gardens, she also enjoyed going to yard sales and she really liked spending time with her cat, Smokey. She is survived by two daughters, Vicki Kay Gorham, of Fort Collins, Colo., and Ann Cushman and her husband, John, of Monmouth; two sons, Kenneth Wheeler, of Chula Vista, Calif., and Sean Wheeler and his companion, Robin Sullivan, of Monmouth; a sister, Doris Dolan and her husband, Barry, of Wilton; seven grandchildren, Daniel Gorham, Steven and his wife, Mindy, Lindsay, and Tamara Cushman, Ashlee and Rebecca Wheeler, and Chad Bryant; and one great-grandson, Tyler Cushman. She was predeceased by her husband, Donald; and a son, Donald Jr., in 1980. Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday, July 5, at East Monmouth Cemetery, Sanborn Road, East Monmouth.
