Obituary of Elizabeth Bates


LAKE WALES, Fla. Elizabeth Betty Bates, 81, of Lake Wales, Fla., died Monday, July 26, 2004 at Good Shepherd Hospice in Auburndale, Fla. Born May 7, 1923 in East Nassau, N.Y., she moved to Lake Wales from West Palm Beach in 1990. She was a retired secretary and treasurer for 35 years at Hoag's Corners Lumber Company in Hoag's Corners, N.Y. During World War II, she was a defense worker for the Watervliet Arsenal in Watervliet, N.Y. She was a founding member of Hoag's Corners Volunteer Ambulance Assoc. and was a past president of the Ladies Auxiliary. She was secretary to the supervisor of the Town of Nassau and she enjoyed cooking, gardening and animals. She is survived by her husband Fred Bates of Lake Wales, Fla.; daughter, Patricia M. Bates of Lake Worth, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held 9 a.m. until service time at 10 a.m., Friday, July 30, 2004 at the Marion Nelson Funeral Home Chapel in Lake Wales, Fla. with Patricia M. Bates officiating. Interment will follow at the Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell, Fla. at 1 p.m. Donations may be made to the American Diabetes Assoc., the American Kidney Fund or the American Heart Assoc.
