Obituary of Edward Dwyer

DWYER, Edward October 8, 1956 - January 10, 2017Edward "Ted" Dwyer, age 60, died on January 10, 2017, with his wife Katrina "Kitty " Osborne and children, Caitlin Dwyer and Jackson Dwyer, at his side. He was predeceased by his father Bruce Dwyer and grandparents Dr. Alfred and Milly Taurins. In addition to his wife and children, he is survived by his mother Elsa and siblings Joe (Manon) Dwyer and Mary Dwyer.Ted was born in Toronto, Ontario, but grew up in Montreal, Quebec. He was naturally curious and eager to explore the world around him from a young age. He built tunnels under apartment buildings. He loved chemistry and conducting experiments with his home lab, for the most part safely. He played chess with the principal of his school and won. He was an avid cyclist in his youth; a winner of the Tour de l''Abitibi and a Quebec cycling champion. He attended McGill University where he earned a degree in electrical engineering-and met Kitty. His interests included flying airplanes, collecting Canadian silver dollars, and walking through neighborhoods around the world to find the best local eats. His favorite novel was The Apprenticeship of Duddy Kravitz. In 1978, after a year of post graduate research in digital processing, Ted joined Matrox Electronic Systems as an applications engineer. He was the tenth employee hired by the then young Canadian technology start up headquartered in Montreal. He remained with the company for the duration of his thirty-eight year professional career, rising from entry level applications engineer to Vice President. His friends and colleagues at Matrox were his second family and his commitment to them was unwavering. He was most proud of his children. Ted did not waste time waiting for things to happen. He was a man of action who always had a plan and the perseverance to "get it done." He lived well and contributed much. He will be dearly missed by his best friend and wife Kitty; his beloved children Caitlin and Jackson; his canine companion Simba; his family; as well as relatives, friends, and colleagues in Winchester, VA, Montreal, QC, and across North America, Europe and Asia. At the time of his passing, Ted was planning a family summer beach vacation. A celebration of his life will be held then.
